[squid-users] Behaviour of squid when acting in accelerator mode

We run Squid 2.4.3 in accelerator mode. What is the behaviour of squid
when the backend server is not available? Is it possible to configure
Squid that it serves requests from the cache when the backend server is
unavailable independant of an object in the cache is fresh or not ?
