Cygwin I know about - I developed the automake banch on it.

I think that will be fine. Thats what automake is designed to accomplish
after all. (The makefiles it creates don't require GNU make, and it
supports dependencies with non-gcc compilers). The only caveat I'm aware
of is that Makefile rebuilding is only reliable under GNU Make, but
again, thats a developer only headache...
