The pthread problem does indicate that the libpthread API has changed
between the installed library and the installed system headers. FWIW this
library is pulled in by the DiskThreads disk-io module in Squid, which can
be avoided by using other IO modules.

eCAP requires loadable-modules, but if you need to adding -I../libltdl to
the flags can avoid the LTDL problems for 3.1.5.1 thru 3.1.7.

I've finally got my hands on an old machine I can personally test these
fixes out on so things should be better again quite soon. For the 3.1.7
snapshots at least.
