[squid-users] Squid 3.1.0.18 beta is available

The Squid HTTP Proxy team is very pleased to announce the
availability of the Squid-3.1.0.18 beta release!

This release brings a number of regression fixes for outstanding items
from across the Squid-3.1 and 3.0 series.

For those wondering, there was no 3.1.0.17 announcement. It was delayed
due to system upgrades, and some additional major issues were resolved
leading to this release instead.

Issues with both the translated files and IPv6 handling in 3.1.0.16
release are now resolved.

Digest authentication has been re-written for true compliance with
standards. Resolving a number of long outstanding issues with Squid-2.x as
well as Squid-3.x series.

Several more of the small feature regressions since in Squid-2.7 have been
ported across to improve production upgrades.
  * The multicast-siblings cache_peer option, for optimizing network
traffic in multicast hierarchies.
  * NTLMv2 support for the fake (logging only) NTLM helper.
  * adapted_http_access option (was called http_access2) to perform
access controls after ICAP, eCAP, and URL-rewriters have made
alterations the client request.
  * ignore_expect_100 to cope with broken clients unable to handle
HTTP/1.1 responses to their HTTP/1.1 requests.

Support for HTTP/1.1 has grown to over 65% compliance, surpassing
Squid-2.7. As of this release, Squid is expected to properly handle
HTTP/1.1 responses and announces itself as full 1.1 to servers and peers.
There are no configuration changes needed. The configuration settings used
in Squid-2.7 to force HTTP version are now obsolete.

Following our planned release timetable:

 These beta releases are now 'frozen' for even minor feature ports from
2.7 involving config changes. Pending any major regressions found in this
release bundle over the next 14 days Squid-3.1 will be marked stable enough
for most production uses.

All users of Squid-3.1 are urged to upgrade to this release as soon as
possible.

All users of Squid-3.0 are encouraged to plan for upgrades within the
year. Support for Squid-3.0 will officially cease with the release of
3.1.1.
