I entered this :

# gdb --args ./squid -NCXd9

and got this :

This GDB was configured as "x86_64-linux-gnu"...
(gdb) bt
No stack.

hmmm...am I doing something wrong ?

Thats a new one.

Can you run squid under a debugger and get a stack trace of where thats
happening?
ie: gdb squid --args -NCXd9<enter>bt<enter>
