Some servers responds with chunked transfer encoding on HTTP/1.0
requests even if doing so is explicitly forbidden in the HTTP/1.1
specifications.
As one of the first steps towards HTTP/1.1 Squid nowdays understands how
to read chunked transfer encoding should a server send such encoding to
Squid even if it's not allowed.
