With IMAP in theory you could use the following:
- sasl_auth Squid authentication helper
- configure saslauthd on your machine to support rimap mechanism, the
following is an example for SMTP auth:

- configure accounts on an external IMAP mail server
But I don't know if there is a similar SASL mechanism based on POP3.
