This sounds like what I am interested in. I'm not sure where to start.
Are there well known applications that will facilitate it? (or not so
well known ones)

IP it is! I'm not stuck on the MAC thing. IP would be perfectly
acceptable.
Is there any documentation on how to accomplish this?
