It cannot be a purely Squid problem, this one. And the answer, if you
expected one, cannot be a straight one, neither is it so obvious.
You will have to look for clues allover your system, /var/log/messages,
/usr/local/squid/logs/*.log, etc. You may even have to use something
like truss[1] to snoop on the Squid process, meaning you will have to
run Squid again, just to try and capture at what point it kills your
system.
Only with some data will the people be able to give you informed
answers.
