Anyway this option doesn't work (for me). I can't remember it did.

My squid was configured with:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/squid-2.5.STABLE9-20050321 --enable-dlmalloc
--enable-gnuregex --enable-storeio=diskd,ufs,aufs,null
--disable-hostname-checks --enable-underscores --enable-basic-auth-helpers=LDAP

> grep -i illegal /squid-logs/cache.log
2005/04/04 11:04:25| urlParse: Illegal hostname '.chez.tiscali.fr'
2005/04/04 11:04:25| urlParse: Illegal hostname '.chez.tiscali.fr'
2005/04/04 11:16:44| urlParse: Illegal hostname '.libero.it'
2005/04/04 11:20:49| urlParse: Illegal hostname 'www..cov.ac.uk'
