Hello squid users,

Today I've just started squid on a new proxy server.

After a few hours squid had died 7 times with the same message:
2005/03/22 14:52:55| assertion failed: comm.c:639: "fd >= 0"
2005/03/22 14:52:58| Starting Squid Cache version 2.5.STABLE9-20050321 for
i686-
pc-linux-gnu...

OS: Debian Woody
Linux janon.univ-st-etienne.fr 2.4.26-1-686-smp #1 SMP Fri Aug 20 19:39:10
CEST 2004 i686 unknown
RAM 4 GB - bi-Xeon 2,8 GHz
Cache disks: 6 x 36 GB SCSI Ultra 320 15k RPM (2 separate SCSI controllers,
RAID 0)

squid was installed with:

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/squid-2.5.STABLE9-20050321 --enable-dlmalloc
--enable-gnuregex --enable-storeio=diskd,ufs,aufs,null
--disable-hostname-checks --enable-underscores --enable-basic-auth-helpers=LDAP

I'm using aufs storage scheme:
cache_dir aufs /cache1 20000 16 256
cache_dir aufs /cache2 20000 16 256
cache_dir aufs /cache3 20000 16 256
cache_dir aufs /cache4 20000 16 256
cache_dir aufs /cache5 20000 16 256
cache_dir aufs /cache6 20000 16 256

I thought I had many file descriptors because /etc/init.d starts squid
with "ulimit -HSn 8192", and cachemrg.cgi reports:
File descriptor usage for squid:
Maximum number of file descriptors: 8192
Largest file desc currently in use: 452
Number of file desc currently in use: 375
        Files queued for open: 0
Available number of file descriptors: 7817
Reserved number of file descriptors: 100
        Store Disk files open: 1

Thanks for your help.
