At some point someone who *really* knows squid is going to have to help you,
but my first impression is that an HTTP Status Code of 504, according to the
FAQ at http://www.squid-cache.org/Doc/FAQ/FAQ-6.html#ss6.8, is "504 Gateway
Timeout" which is not good. My setup is so simple that many of the
posts/problems here go right by me so I have no experience with various
gateways, etc. but you might check some upstream gateway. What might be a
"default config" to you might have some clue that queues you in to this
problem. You might want to check the archives for gateway timeout issues
and see if any apply to you:
