In addition to the original senders email, heres my setup...

CPU = Pentium IV 1.2 Ghz
Memory = 700 mb
Drives = 2 SCSI Drives (ULTRA-WIDE)
squid v = 2.5.stable1
http request/sec = 300-600
1 3com NIC
OS = Redhat Linux 8.0 with kernel 2.4.18.27-8.0

Hoping for a suggested setup so that i can compare it with my config here

What we need from you is

 * Amount of HTTP traffic you need to sustain (preferably measured as
requests/s). If you today run another proxy such as Bordermanager then
finding this information should be pretty easy by looking at the
statistics from the current proxy.

 * Type of hardware you have available in CPU, Memory and drives.

Then we can advise you on how to best configure Squid and what kind of
tunings may be required for your situation.

Just giving random quotes of hardware and performance does not give very
much.
