 In essence this problem, isn't very much related to squid.
 
 If the virus definitions are being tranferred through http, then SQUID
 will kind of automatically be used I guess.
 Caching of the relevant objects will be determined by what the
 remote server has to say about them in context of freshness and
 related information.
