Don't know, but I think that 5xx, 4xx, etc. are http status codes only
and are not related to https connections.

Hm, I would assume that proxy selection is unrelated to a http or
https site being down.
I would not like my browser to change proxy, if one site either
http or https is down.
Or, proxy selection algorythm, is unrelated to any states
encountered with http or https connectivity for a specific proxy.
