Depending on how you started squid, there may be a squid.out file in the
directory it was started from (if you used the RunCache script.) There
may also be entries in the cache.log file (a bit of a misnomer as it is
the file that contains all squid messages - info, warning and errors)
which you configured in squid.conf.
Failing that, try starting squid in the foreground with some debugging
turned on, for e.g.:
squid -d 5 -N
