Just to add my "Me too!" to the list of people experiencing problems with
Squid 2.5STABLE1, as described in:

I have been setting up a new machine to introduce into our currently
two-node cluster of Sun boxes running Squid 2.4STABLE7. Our new machine is
pretty similar in configuration to Markus':

    * Sun SunFire v120
    * Solaris 8
    * 1Gb RAM
    * Two cache partitions (24Gb and 32Gb)
    * /etc/system tweaked to increase the number of open files:
        set rlim_fd_max = 4096
        set rlim_fd_cur = 1024

I then built Squid 2.5STABLE1 with these configuration options:

    ./configure \
        --prefix=/opt/york/squid-2.5.STABLE1 \
        --enable-async-io \
        --enable-basic-auth-helpers="LDAP" \
        --enable-cache-digests \
        --enable-default-err-language=English \
        --enable-delay-pools \
        --enable-err-languages="English" \
        --disable-ident-lookups \
        --enable-kill-parent-hack \
        --enable-removal-policies="lru,heap" \
        --disable-wccp

Then I tried it myself as a standalone system: no problem that I noticed
(then).

I then linked it in so that our other two nodes talked ICP to it, and put
some HTTP request traffic through it. I noticed it seemed "lumpy" in
responses and checked its cache.log to find the same error messages about:

    * Resource temporarily unavailable
and
    * Too many open files

I stopped and restarted Squid a few times, with and without HTTP traffic
going through it. Even when it was dealing only with ICP queries I saw the
above errors being logged, often within seconds of starting Squid up.

I've now built Squid 2.4STABLE7 and this has been running (dealing with ICP
queries) over the whole weekend without a single error message being logged.

I would suggest there is something DEFINITELY different/problematic about
2.5STABLE1.

Does anyone have any clues as to how to proceed, please?
