[squid-users] dead parents

I have a simple 2 level cache setup as shown below

user ----- squid1 ----- squid2 ------ internet

when the user makes a request after restarting squid, the 1st page often
comes back ok, but sometimes images fail to download. Very soon after the
squid1 logs report squid2 as a dead parent. Squid1 and squid2 are on the
same ethernet and can ping each other at all times.

NOTE: If i set up a browser on squid2 to use the squid2 proxy, its works all
the time.
