Yep, the way Joe (Swell Tech) does.

Seriously, some profiling has been done, have a look on the developers
archives. The long and short is: you'll tweak a few percent in load
bearing capability, but that's the best case, and you may introduce bugs
in doing so. You are very unlikely to address latency (which for users
is probably more important that sheer performance) via compiler
optimisations.
