Are you by any chance running Linux 2.4? If so, see Squid FAQ 14.5 Can't
connect to some sites through Squid (Linux) for details.
Not Linux fault, Linux only triggers a bug in some buggi network
equipment (mainly firewalls, such as Cisco PIX running a slightly old
firmware..).
