Hi,
I recently increased the ram in a squid cache from 750Megs to 1.5Gig and
when I increased the cache_mem size the system (Redhat 7.1,
squid-2.4.STABLE1-5) ran out of file_descriptors. I went through the
process on recompiling the binary, with 8192 file_descriptors instead of
the 1024 default, as per the instructions on Henrik's web site.
Now there is no mention of file_descriptors in the logs but squid
suddenly resets it's self loosing all the data in ram.
The system is stable with an 8Gig disk cache and 800Meg cache_mem but if
I increase either of these values squid will reset. The total ram used
by squid when it does this is less than 75%. When the total system ram
was 750Megs the cache was stable with squid using 85-90% of ram.
Any suggestions on what the problem is and how to resolve it would be
greatly appreciated.
-David.
