[squid-users] How to change file descriptor number?

I have read FAQ and modified my limits.h OPEN_MAX = 8192 and rebuild my
linux kernel 2.4.16-pre1. after reboot i checked file /proc/sys/fs/file_max
= 8192.
but while i reconfigure squid 2.4st2 , the script still told me the default
and the max FD are both 1024. so, what can i do now?
