For one of our proxies we run 2.4.STABLE2 on an Enterprise 2 (Solaris 8),
2x300Mhz and 512Mb Ram, it is performing very well an is stabel like a rock.
There are about a 700 users accessing it.
For filtering we use the squidguard and doesn't really reduce the
performance.
I don't think that using Linux on a Sun would gain the performance.
