[squid-users] fyi: how to configure squid with Starband (satellite broadband)

Howdy,

I thought folks might take special interest in setting up SQUID with
Starband.

Starband uses accellerator software for their 360 satellite modem.
Unfortunately, it only runs on a Windows machine. I have setup my
environment as follows:

[sat modem] <-> [win2k] <-> [linux fw] <-.... internal network
(192.168.x) ...

The Win2K's internal NIC is 10.0.0.1

Adding the following line in your squid.conf will allow SQUID to go
through the satellite accellerator:

        cache_peer 10.0.0.1 parent 9877 7 proxy-only no-query
^^^^^^^^ -- change that to match your Win2K's
internal NIC IP address

What's _very_ cool is that the satellite accellerator is horrible when
it deals with HTTPS, however, SQUID doesn't send it through the
accellerator and that's just fine! SQUID works greate with HTTPS!!!

Hats off to all the SQUID developers and users who have made this
product rock!
