No it wouldn't.

mp3$ doesn't match, nor does
mp3\?.*

The .*$ is redundant and forcing a longer match than needed - which is
slower.

Also you need .* - * is 0 to many of the prior symbol, and . is any
single character.
So mine was
(extension$|extension\?.*)
