[squid-users] Compression

We want to throw some new hardware at
over the wire compression of text content.

Apache has compression module(s); what
about squid?

This appears to have come up a few times in
the archive, but I see no outcome.

I can see an article on squid-dev in Nov 97 by
Gregory Maxwell an LZO compression proposition.
I don't see it in the source

I'm aware of the issues involved - (i've read the Jeff
Mogul paper ;) ) I just want to know:

can it, does it, and if so, how ? ..or.. will it; if so, when?

If not, has anyone bodged a pipeline to _make_ it
do it ??
