Hey all,
I have this puzzling problem with Hotmail. I have 2 PCs, 1 is connected
directly to my LAN and the other is behind a cable router (a cable modem
with routing and NAT functions). Both PCs access the web thru the same
Squid box on the LAN. Curiously, the PC on the LAN can access HotMail but
the PC behind the cable router can't. I tried accessing HotMail in
different orders: first the PC on the LAN followed by the one behind the
router, vice-versa, etc. No matter what I do, the darn PC behind the cable
router just won't access the damn site.
I seem to remember a thread on this list some time ago about HotMail being
picky and requiring that each connection has to have a "valid" IP, i.e., it
should be unique. My problem is, most of our clients are Internet cafe's
behind these cable routers. What can I do to rectify this (if this is
indeed what's causing the problem)? My Squid config "hides" the client
browser's IP with the anonymize_header tag (i think).
I dunno if this is related but HotMail's DNS almost always barfs. I know
this for a fact since I am a member of the BIND and QMail mailing lists.
It's not rare for us to have DNS problems related to HotMail and mail
bounces from that domain.
