i had posted some questions to this list in the past regarding squid's
mysterious memory consumption. i have now - at last - sorted the problem.
after trying all kinds of 'configure' options, i finally dared to use '
--enable-dlmalloc' - and that's it!
the squid process is still as big as it has been before, but my system
(suse 7.1/2.4.0-SMP-64GB) now reports enough free memory to satisfy me.
