SOCKS is a general application level proxy and firewall traversal
protocol. Defined by Internet RFC 1928, and is proposed to becoming an
Internet Standard. Meant for use in application level firewalls.
Supports just about any imagineable protocol and various methods of
authentication, but requires the client to have SOCKS support, and
cannot do caching.
