Mmm. I'm not as fluent on DNS specs, but IIRC DNS never allowed _ in dns
names either. A particular broken OS we all know and love allows _ in
netbios names though, and possibly thats the historical reason for the
machine name.

Just be aware that squid _violates_ both the http/1.0 and http/1.1
specifications when that workaround is in use. Having said that - it's
your call.
