Sounds like you haven't really got DNS running properly
Quick tests:
1. Try if telnet can resolve names
telnet www.squid-cache.org 80
2. Next thing to try is nslookup
nslookup www.squid-cache.org
Side question: Why have you changed the default DNS check list? Usually
there only is need to do this if you DO NOT have full DNS configured.
