[squid-users] Reducing cache_dir's size

Last Thursday I reduced the size of my cache_dirs (cut
by half).
I thought they'd be somewhat slow in following my
configuration directive, but that in a few hours the
garbage collection mechanism would have fixed things up.
It's been four days now, and yet the usage of the resized
cache_dirs has only gone down a few percent points.
Is there really no other choice than deleting the
cache dirs' contents?
