The getpwnam helper authenticates agains /etc/passwd
If you are running with shadow passwords then getpwnam won't work as the
passwords are not in /etc/passwd. pam_auth can run against shadow
passwords, or you could patch the getpwnam helper to make use of
getspnam() directly..
