as far as I understood your question, that is exactly what Jesred is
intended to do and I have been using it successfully with Squid in
"httpd_accel" mode to accellerate Apache running several "name-based
virtual hosts".
Since I stopped using name-based virtual hosts and moved each virtual host
to its own "real" Squid/Apache host, I don't use Jesred anymore. But it
solved one of my biggest problems in a fast and elegant manner.
