Hello everyone,
I have a question regarding the interpretation of the access.log file that
Squid generates. I checked the FAQ section which briefly explained the
various fields in the log. This has helped, but there remain four entries
which I would like some clarification on so that we understand what kind of
data we're dealing with.
The four fields in question are:
- Result code
- Request method
- RFC931
- Hierarchy code
If somebody would be kind enough to explain in straightforward terms what
these items refer to, it would be appreciated!
Just a little background: we're basically using Squid on our Linux firewall
machine to monitor all outgoing calls for web pages on the Internet. We
would like to analyze the access.log file to find out what pages are being
accessed, who's accessing them, etc.
Which brings me to one last question for you folks... is there an
application that can take the Squid logs and analyze / display them in a
graphical format? I heard that Web Trends might have something like this
available. Does anybody have any suggestions on this? It doesn't
necessarily have to run on Linux since we have the option of transferring
the logs over to Windows NT or UNIX for analysis.
Thank you in advance for any help you're able to provide on this subject.
=)
