Hello All,
I am getting ready to dive into a project and it has some requirements that
I think Squid might be able to help me with, but I wanted to make sure
before I start.
I need a transparent proxy setup on a network with about 25 clients (will
scale up to a few thousand) so that I can limit what web sites are allowed
to be reached. Our customer wants to disallow all sites except for some
that they will provide us with. I think that I am using the "transparent"
terminology correctly -- I don't want to have to configure the clients to go
through the proxy -- I just want all traffic to be forced through it. We
will have a HP ProCurve Switch 2524 connecting all of the network segments
to the internet.
I also need a web cache setup for this network as well. This network is
going to have pretty low bandwidth (128K - 512K). I want to go out and
cache all of the allowed sites each night so that they will be available for
the next day (obviously some dynamic sites will still have to go out for
search results and such).
Is Squid going to be able to help me out with this? Also, if anyone happens
to have a good site bookmarked that would offer some starting help, that
would be great. Thanks for any help/advice that you can offer.
