I'm using a proxy server on our Internet connection to provide logging
and isolation between our LAN and the Internet. Traffic is a few hundred
Mb per day. The diversity of web and FTP sites accessed means that a
cache would be of very little use.
At present I'm using Apache as the proxy server (on Linux). While Apache
is a fine web server, it is clear that the proxy module is not as well
maintained as the rest of the application, and the internet connection
halts every few days - Apache needs restarting to fix it.
My question is, would I be better using Squid? I'd like to totally
disable cacheing (as I can with Apache). Authentication of clients is
not an issue, but the proxy must handle HTTP, HTTPS and FTP requests
including sites which require authentication.
TIA
Dave
