Hi All,
Here's the senareo..
I am usine Linux Squid server for internet access in our office. Its an office of about 100 computers. We are also having many staging servers in our internal network. We are using the internal DNS server on NT for the internal resolutions(only within the company ie the internal DNS server does not resolve the domain outside, nor is it resolved from outside). The Linux server on which we have squid, is also running the cache-only DNS server which is used by squid to resolve the outside domains while internet browsing.
Now whenever the users are trying to connect to the internal servers through squid, they are not able to get the page since the DNS server that is present in the Linux server attempts to resolve this server outside(which does not exist).
I want to know that is there any method by which I can configure my squid to use the internal DNS server for the resolutin of addresses inside our domain..For eg. when the squid looks for any outside address, it uses the Linux DNS server and if it looks for internal domain(x.mycompany.com) it uses our internal DNS server. If not this way is there any other workaround to this type of problem? Can I put entry in /etc/hosts file and make squid use this file for resolving internal addresses? Please Help..
Thanks,
Gaurav
