Jimmy,

This doesn't apply to the original problem - which is on an Alpha. The
kernel is already compiled for the correct CPU and crossbar switch
architecture.

I am going to try using Compaq's C compilers for linux rather than the GNU
one, to see if that makes any difference.

I found that in the kernel i had to setup the proccessor type on linux to be
K6 rather than PPRO. and i have 139days uptime now, and no cache downtimes
:)
maybe worth thinking about re-compiling your kernel.
