that is because squid is an _http_ (or ftp-over-http) proxy, not a socks
proxy (what i think you thought it was). to do what you want, you should
read the ip-masquerade-howto, firewall-howto, ipchains-howto, avaible at
LDP-howto mirrors everywhere (http://www.linux.com/howto comes to mind).
