Questions about problems with DEVEL releases does not belong on
squid-users, and certainly not problems related to building these.
PERIOD.
Problems building or crashes which is not noted on the bugs page should
be sent to squid-bugs@ircache.net. This is regardless of the Squid
version.
Questions and uncertainities about added functions in the DEVEL releases
should be sent to squid-dev@squid-cache.org to reach the developers. The
squid-dev list is moderated to keep out spam, and questions relevant to
the list will be accepted by the moderator(s).
Questions on configuration of the latest STABLE release belongs on
squid-users.
Discussion about the general usability of the new features being
developed or wanted are OK and welcomed on squid-users, but to increase
the likelyhood that the information gets the developers attention please
CC any conclusions or summaries to squid-dev@squid-cache.org.
Why DEVEL problem or configuration discussions are not wanted on
squid-users:
* DEVEL releases are what the name says. There are no guarantees these
will run or even build OK.
* DEVEL releases are subject to change. The behaviour or configuration
directives may well change before it goes STABLE. By discussing the
DEVEL releases Squid-Users people might get a false impression or get on
the wrong track when they are about to install the next STABLE release.
* DEVEL releases are only intended to be used by developers or
experienced Squid users wanting to try out some of the new features
before all the coding and bug testing is completed.
* Not all developers actively read squid-users and some instead spend
their time on development. I unfortunately spends to much time on
Squid-Users which has come to hinder my Squid development. I am trying
to change that but habits are hard to break...
