Squid includes since 1.2 some elementary AS-based ACLs, and thus the
possibility for request routing based on ACLs - among other things. For
instance, if your backbone and cache location permits, you might want to
go always_direct for all destination within your own ASN.
Please note that the default as_whois_server points to the MERIT server.
ASNs are queried just once during startup, so, in order to catch an
update, you need to restart your squid once in a while. Also, the whois
server *must* support the extended RA whois query syntax. Please look into
the list archive for details: Last Tuesday I wrote about ASNs and included
some example.
