Our squids are giving between a 40% adn 25% bandwidth saving over the WAN
connections when we use cacheing. During peak hours, it appears that the
bandwidth savings is highest, although that is difficult to measure. ONe
point which has become clear in our studies is that one needs to have a
large enough cache to cache a significant portion of your traffic. We
are doing about 20 gigabytes of traffic a week and have a cache of about
4 gigabytes. realisitically we need to increase this cache size to
closer to 10 gigabytes (20 would be even better).
One point we have discovered. If.you squid crashes with a large cache,
it appear to be preferable to blow away the cache and start over rather
than to try to rebuild the cache.
Cheers!
