Hi,
I have tested squid-2.3Stable2 in an IBM Netfinity 5000 with 2 P-III 600Mhz 768MB RAM, a Raid Controller with 64MB of cache memory with 5 9.1GB HD 10krpm in a RAID 0 configuration, using 36GB for caching objects, with FreeBSD 3.4 as a dedicated squid cache engine (wccp), supported ~8500 req/min, using 10MB of BW to the internet, without loosing performance, it worked great!!!.
I Hope this info can help you...
Ales

Subject: please guide me friends and Gurus
dear friends
right now ,we are using squid 2.2 stable 4 on Redhat 6.1, on IBM netfinity 5000 with 512 Mb of ram ,this
m/c is also our sec. DNS,
cache size ---> SCSI 7000 MB (7GB)
avg load -->> around 400 requests/min ,
which is supposed to increase to 800 to 1100 request/min in near future.
now the question is ,is it advisible to change the hardware ( that is 2 P III with 512 MB ram & 8 GB of IDE disk cache
configured as siblings with "no proxy" options ) will it perform well as compered to current hardware configuation ( thats is IBM netfinity 5000 with 512 MB ram and 7 GB disk cache ) if every other remains the same ,
thanks in advance,
Prashant Desai
