hi,

start patch from the directory where the source-file resides, which you want
to patch (../src or .../lib or something else). this helped on my box.
example:

/opt/squid-2.2.STABLE5.with-patches/src/ $ /opt/hppd/bin/patch <
../../squid-patches/name-of-the-patch.patch
