squid 1.something vs squid2.3stable

I have been checking squid.nlanr.net and other linux sites.
Besides plugging a security hole with Host header processing,
adding a "strip" option and fixing a bug that affects unknown HTTP
headers,

1. what is the performance difference between squid 1.something
and squid 2.3?

2. what features are in squid 2.3 that are not in 1.something?
