Hi List!
I have squid running on a machine connected to the ISP via a 56K
modem line (permanent). This machine is a RedHat6 Linux box with a
MYLEX raid controller and is the companies mailbox, including some
ftp/http stuff, ppp, squid (used mainly as a cache not control).
I have another machine sitting behind this as a firewall/router
combo connecting the LAN to the WAN.
Now what I wanted to do is to cache pages many people might read,
this includes TheAge (local news), TheAustralian (australia news)
etc....
I installed SQUID and it runs fine and I had no problems
understanding all the terms and basic setup options, including parent
etc.
No looking at the TCP_HIT and TCP_MISS cache result codes using
"calamaris" it seems to me that I get a lot of misses. If I, for
example, go to one machine to read "www.theage.com.au" and then go to
another machine to read it there, then I would assume that the page
should be found in my cache. It is not as the page gets loaded again
(from what I can see in the logs).
Is it because the parent has it, so my chache gets it always from the
parent?
What setup option have I missed? (i am not including the squid.conf
file here as I do not want to send it around a million times to
waiste bandwidth....)
Furthermore (although the isp states that they have ICP proxies I do
not see any ICP packets popping up in the logs. This is the line I
used to be child to my ISP:
cache_peer proxy1.mel.connect.com.au parent 8080 3130
cache_peer proxy2.mel.connect.com.au parent 8080 3130
cache_peer proxy.syd.connect.com.au parent 8080 3130 no-query default
and looking at socklist:
udp 3401 17214 102 1598 12 squid
udp 3130 17213 102 1598 11 squid
it certainly shows up......
I have scanned the mailing list (the search is not working) but I
couldnt see anything matching to my problem... well two eyes arent as
good as a good written perl/cgi script ......
Any thoughts highly appreaciated!
