Problem with dnsserver

With squid-2.2.STABLE5 for powerpc-ibm-aix4.2.1.0
I have the following problem with dnsserver reported in
cache.log:

1999/10/25 11:45:06| ipcacheParse: Got <NULL> reply
1999/10/25 11:45:06| WARNING: dnsserver #1 (FD 2) exited
1999/10/25 11:47:13| ipcacheParse: Got <NULL> reply
1999/10/25 11:47:13| WARNING: dnsserver #2 (FD 3) exited
1999/10/25 11:47:26| ipcacheParse: Got <NULL> reply

Moreover, if I run the command
echo squid.nlanr.net | ./dnsserver
an empty output is generated! It seems dnsserver does not work at all.
I had no problem related to dnsserver on the same host with squid-1.1.20.

Any idea ?
