Cache partition full caused crash

I set my LRU limits to 99% and 97%, I guess one of the partitions on a
disk reached 100% and squid died. I had to go into the cache dirs and
delete some entries within some directories manually to get it to
restart. Is there ia a better way to do this, although I hope it
doens't happen again, I reset my limits to 96% and 93%. Thanks,
