You can't divert FTP traffic to Squid. Squid only supports FTP requests
made from an WWW browser configured to use Squid as a proxy.

You can use any DNS server you like, provided that it has access to the
DNS data you need for lookups and access controls. If you use
never_direct then Squid won't look up destination IP addresses unless
you have access controls based on it.

No, it is a slave process to Squid for performing asyncronous DNS
lookups. In function it is similar to nslookup but with different
input/output and less options.
